Course Description:

Discover the correct selection, specification, engineering and design process to create safe and permanent roof attachments for a variety of needs. Learn how to properly identify rooftop thermal cycling for the different roof covering materials and manage the correct installation process.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the best rooftop accessory product for a specific need or application.
  2. Learn how to properly design a rooftop penetration and eliminate future problems by studying correct and incorrect applications. Also, recognize product limitations, specifications and code requirements for the desired rooftop accessory.
  3. Discover different types of roof accessories, know their application and better understand how to incorporate them in design.
  4. Understand the way an accessory is attached to a roof dramatically affects the roofs thermal movement and subsequent potential for future water leakage and roof warranty violations.

Bio: Chris Lafferty is the General Manager for Design Components Inc. Design Components was founded in 1978 and continues to be an industry leader in metal building accessories. DCI specializes in a wide variety of accessories including their propriety METALWALK rooftop walkway system. In 2017, Chris joined the Design Components team in a sales & marketing role and became the General Manager in 2020. Prior to working for Design Components, Chris was a business owner for 20 plus years. He was an unlimited General Contractor in 3 states. His company specialized in ground-up commercial construction & interior retail upfits.
